Six Organs of Admittance returns to Drag City w/ new LP “Time is Glass” :: 04/26

Ben Chasny’s Six Organs of Admittance might be one of the greatest combinations of singer/songwriter and metaphysical instrumentals to have ever been laid to tape. We’ve all wondered more times than anyone should about what it would have been like if Fahey sang over a his music. The complicated arrangements that the Primitive style calls on its master is nothing short of a miraculous gift, but to cast intricate language over it? Get out of here… The California legend has been creating music for over two decades and has built such a monumental body of work ranging from straight-forward psychedelic inferno riots, melodic mediations of life and death and compelling swells of humble palace habitation jams. With releases such as “School of the Flower”, “Asleep on the Floodplain”, “For Octavio Paz”, “Burning the Threshold” and “Companion Rises”, Chasny propels his listeners into yet another celebration of rhythm, chaos and majestic flow with his new album on Drag City entitled “Time is Glass”. An already timeless classic amongst the Six Organs of Admittance repertoire and yet Chasny manages to once again spin this cosmic web of aluminum durability that wields a strength like no other. Arrangements as calm as still water and as encapsulating as a roaring thunder peaking over cold winter mountains. I imagine Chansy in some sacred den of ancient carpets and local animals pallets in centuries long past. His music is simply from another place in time and it’s as simple as that.

The record’s opener and first single, “The Mission”, is this subtle prayer forged from metal and dormant steel in some wicked valley near camps of cult celebrations riddled with crazed locals wearing ancient bootleg talismans. Wondering barefoot alongside frozen rivers and battered trails once inhabited by acoustic ancestors, Chasny’s new release is a sincere reflection of not only a musician growing in his career, but as a human and that’s something you can always count on with a Six Organs of Admittance records. A boundless beat, creative calculation and ceremonial. cleverness, “Time is Glass” is one for the books that’s bound in leather and written in old warrior blood.

The album will be released on the constant bringer of all things rad, Drag City, on the 26th of April. And what better time for the rain to wash away all that was once frozen and dormant for May’s flowers to have such as a soundtrack for the warm days that lie ahead.
