Rogê :: “Curyman II” - Diamond West Records

Brazilian-based singer-songwriter, composer, pizza pro and all around legend of language, Roger José Cury, known to many around the world as Rogê (pronounced haw-zheh), has been soulfully serenading the embedded ears of the atmospheric anomalies he’s been captivating on a regular basis for well over a decade now. Having first come onto the scene with his self-titled debut “Rogê” back in 2003, as well as occupying the head-rush outfit Doces Cariocas in the mid 2000s, the musician would soon set out to begin writing, recording and mastering the cosmic courage of solo career charisma, while simultaneously wielding the echoing wonders of nylon mystery. With a run of early, rambling releases such as “Baile Do Brenguelé”, “Nômade” and last year’s acclaimed “Curyman”, Rogê has manifested an extremely monumental body of mesmerizing music over the years and, with the highly anticipated follow up of Curyman II”, which is set to surf the esoteric expressway of both rhythm and ritualistic reverberation this weekend, the sophisticated ballads freely shift into the ever-changing sunsets of dynamical delights that are sure to blister the subtle surface with ease. Growing up in Rio, Rogê attended the school of samba (a Brazilian dance of African origin with a basic pattern of step-close-step-close) in the notorious nightclubs of Lapa in Rio de Janeiro, where he would eventually connect and receive mentorship from the community within in its bustling core. For the next decade, the songwriter held a longstanding residency in Lapa’s famous club, Carioca da Gema, and from there, paved a way for poetic excellence.

Whether by floating boat, train, plane, or astral aviation, Rogê tongues the telepathic thought of melodic mediation by teleporting head first into the reality of romanticism, while wanderlust waves calmly crash against the skin like a sudden song whispered from the lips of a loving language. With harmonious habitations from both the skies and space of all living things that bravely breathe into this simultaneous soundscape, his worldly tone and exciting expertise in the “vibe” are unanimously untouched even by the humble comparisons of the tonal trailblazers before him. “Curyman II” breaks the silvery silence of the world and its difficult narrative of oppressed occupation by giving it a voluminous voice of positive projection for all to see, hear and feel no matter what corner of the pulsating planet you may dwell. Joined by the likes of Abe Rounds/Stephane San Juan, Will Schalda, Chester Hansen, André Sequeira and countless other electrifying entities that help bring this incredible body of work to life, Rogê mounts the musical moment and guides us through an exotic escapade of total temptation and spiritual euphoria one song at a time. With the title track opening the album like that of some poetic portal into an astounding cabinet of aphrodisia and stringed sonnets, “Curyman II” provides this fundamental freedom that is lusciously loose and lovely spoken by singing shadows hanging like oscillating ornaments high above both mountains and mortal museums of fine art. Rogê continues to eagerly explore the multi-landscaped horizon with numbers like “A Revolta Dos Malês”, “A Rã” (João Donato and Caetano Veloso), “A Lendo Do Abaeté” and “100% Samba” all coexisting in this epic ecosystem of extraterrestrial existence. The album truly embodies the tropical tonality of both the familiar and the excitingly mysterious.

With a number of cosmic collaborations from maestro legend Arthur Verocai to Arlindo Cruz, the album begins to shape itself around the natural elements of the world with a rich and holy community of musicians that ultimately encapsulate the brilliant Brazilian culture at its historical roots. Set for release by Pasadena, CA-based label Diamond West Records on November 22, Rogê effortlessly brings his Brazilian genius to the sonic surface with an evolutionary approach and preliminary performance that is sure to expose not only new listeners to his music and captivating culture, but also in an accurate attempt to bring peace, love and endless harmony to anyone who voluntarily ventures into his wonderful web of musical mastery.
